The All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign for the August 15 governorship election continued to gather momentum on Friday as the Rotational Ilesa East Campaign Committee took its ward visitation to Ward 6, drawing party faithful and supporters in large numbers.
The highlight of the event was the special appearance of the Managing Director of the South West Development Commission (SWDC), Sir Dr. Charles Akindiji Akinola, popularly known as Ogidan for AMBO, who returned to his political ward despite his demanding national responsibilities.
His attendance was widely described as a demonstration of his unwavering commitment to the AMBO governorship project and the shared vision of advancing the development of Osun State.
In his welcome address, Dr. Akinola expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the ongoing reconstruction of the Ibadan–Ife–Ilesa Expressway, describing the project as a major boost to economic development and connectivity in the region.
Speaking on the achievements of the immediate past APC administration in the state, Dr. Akinola commended the governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), for his administrative competence and financial management while serving as Commissioner for Finance under former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
According to him, despite inheriting liabilities, the Oyetola administration successfully repaid about ₦94 billion out of an estimated ₦247 billion debt while consistently paying workers' salaries without resorting to additional borrowing.
He further noted that the establishment of the University of Ilesa was made possible through the efforts of the Oyetola administration in collaboration with Ijesa stakeholders and patriots, describing the institution as a landmark achievement for the people of the region.
Dr. Akinola urged residents and party supporters to remain united behind the APC and turn out en masse on August 15 to vote for AMBO, expressing confidence that the party would secure victory at the polls.
Among party leaders in attendance were the Chairman of the APC Ijesa South Federal Constituency Campaign Council, Hon. Femi Kujembola; Chairman of APC in Ilesa East Local Government, Hon. Akinola Fowowe; Hon. Akintola Akinyele;Hon. Akeem Olowoopejobori, Hon. Chief Mrs. Adebisi Adebiyi; Hon. Dosu Gidigbi, Hon. Olanireti Ogunsina, Hon. Seyi Ogundipe, Hon. Kofo Omole; Princess Temilade Adewusi, alongside other APC leaders, stakeholders and supporters who reaffirmed their commitment to delivering Ward 6 for the party in the forthcoming election.
The Ward 6 visitation forms part of the ongoing grassroots mobilisation strategy of the APC across Ilesa East Local Government as the party intensifies its campaign ahead of the governorship poll.
