No fewer than 10 people have died, while six others were injured in a fatal road crash along the Ibadan–Lagos Expressway.
The tragic accident happened at about 8:05 p.m. on Sunday at Saapade Bridge. It involved a white Sinotruk (CNHTC) truck and a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number EKY 290 YM.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Afolabi Odunsi, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to Odunsi, a total of 18 people were involved in the crash. The victims included 15 adult men, two adult women, and one male child.
He said 10 persons lost their lives in the accident, while six others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The injured victims were rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The FRSC expressed sympathy to the families of those who lost their loved ones and urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, avoid speeding, and ensure their vehicles are in good condition to prevent avoidable road crashes.
Authorities have commenced investigations to determine the exact cause of the fatal accident.
