Osun APC Campaign Council Accuses Adeleke Administration of Undermining O'HIS, Alleges Mismanagement of Health Insurance Funds

‎ The Osun State APC Governorship Campaign Council has accused the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke of undermining the Osun Health Insurance Scheme (O'HIS), alleging that the once-celebrated healthcare programme has been transformed into a commercial venture at the expense of quality healthcare delivery for vulnerable residents.

‎In a statement issued on Monday by the Head of its Media and Publicity Committee, Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, the Council claimed that the recent recovery of millions of naira by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) from some O'HIS officials reflects what it described as deep-rooted corruption within the current administration.

‎The opposition campaign council alleged that funds originally earmarked for the procurement of essential drugs, medical consumables, and healthcare services had instead been diverted to the construction of shopping complexes and event centres.

‎According to the Council, the development represents a departure from the original objectives of the health insurance scheme, which it said was established to provide affordable healthcare for poor and vulnerable residents of Osun State.

‎The Council further claimed that healthcare providers and beneficiaries now express dissatisfaction with the operation of the scheme, alleging that enrollees receive only limited medical support and are often compelled to make out-of-pocket payments for treatments beyond basic medications.

‎It also expressed concern over what it described as the deteriorating state of emergency medical services in the state, alleging that only a fraction of the ambulances inherited from the previous administration remain operational.

‎The APC Campaign Council questioned the decision to invest in event centres and shopping complexes under the O'HIS while, according to it, critical healthcare infrastructure requires urgent attention.

‎The Council equally criticised plans surrounding the commissioning of the O'HIS event centre, arguing that available resources should instead be directed towards strengthening healthcare delivery and improving access to medical services for residents.

‎Reiterating the principles of social health insurance, the Council maintained that the scheme should prioritise the needs of indigent and vulnerable citizens by ensuring access to affordable and quality healthcare.

‎It called on the Adeleke administration to restore the integrity of the Osun Health Insurance Scheme by redirecting its resources to healthcare delivery and improving medical services across the state.

‎The Council also assured residents that, if elected, an administration led by the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), would prioritise quality healthcare delivery and implement a robustly funded health insurance programme designed to serve the people of Osun State more effectively.

‎The statement was signed by Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, Head of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council.
