The Nigerian military has honoured one of its gallant officers, Lieutenant F.A. Isaac, who paid the supreme price during the operation to rescue kidnapped schoolchildren and their teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed that Lt. Isaac was killed in the early phase of the military operation launched to rescue the 44 pupils and teachers abducted by armed kidnappers. Born on August 25, 1997, the young officer was laid to rest on July 10 at the 23rd Armoured Brigade Cemetery in Yola, Adamawa State, with full military honours.
In a poignant twist of fate, the successful rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers was announced on the very day Lt. Isaac was buried, bringing an emotional conclusion to the 56-day ordeal. The rescue operation was led by Major General Chinedu Ralph Nnebeife.
Lt. Isaac lost his life while courageously confronting the kidnappers in a mission aimed at securing the safe return of the victims. His sacrifice has been widely described as a testament to the bravery, dedication, and selfless service of Nigeria's Armed Forces in the fight against insecurity.
The rescue mission ended successfully, with all the abducted pupils and teachers freed unharmed during a coordinated security operation. Authorities confirmed that eight suspected kidnappers were arrested, while others were neutralised. They also maintained that no ransom was paid and no prisoner exchange took place to secure the victims' release.
The coincidence of Lt. Isaac's burial and the rescue of the captives has resonated deeply across the country, highlighting both the enormous sacrifices made by military personnel and the unwavering commitment of the nation's security forces to protecting lives.
Tributes have continued to pour in from Nigerians, who have hailed the fallen officer as a true patriot whose courage and ultimate sacrifice made it possible for dozens of innocent lives to be reunited with their families.
Though his promising life was cut short in the line of duty, Lieutenant F.A. Isaac leaves behind a legacy of honour, courage, and unwavering devotion to the service of his fatherland.
His memory will endure in the hearts of his family, comrades, and a grateful nation.
May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
