The Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Francis Fadahunsi, has accused Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke of bringing political violence into the district before Saturday’s governorship election.
Fadahunsi spoke during a press conference in Osogbo on Wednesday. He said more than 40 people had been killed in Osun East in the last one year. He also accused the state government of not doing enough to stop the violence.
The senator said 30 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had been killed in the past month. According to him, the attacks were meant to scare opposition supporters and stop people from voting.
“Adeleke brought violence from Ede into Osun East, which is an APC stronghold, so that people will be afraid to come out and vote,” Fadahunsi said.
He listed several violent incidents in Ijesaland. He claimed that four people were killed and 16 others were shot during a crisis over control of local government administration. He also said four people died and 12 were injured in violence in Esa-Oke in April 2025.
Fadahunsi further alleged that members of the Amotekun Corps killed four of his supporters in Akinlalu and injured six others seriously.
The senator accused some government officials and political allies of supporting cult groups involved in the violence. He mentioned one person, Solomon Adefioye, also known as Solo Iwara.
He said the situation became worse as the election approached, claiming that 12 APC members were killed within 24 hours during recent attacks.
Fadahunsi said he visited the palace of the Owa of Ijesaland to protest against the killings. He called on traditional rulers and security agencies to protect voters and ensure a peaceful election.
He also accused Senator Oyewumi Iyiola, Director-General of the Accord Party campaign council, of interfering in a case involving a suspect linked to the killing of Remi Abass in Irewole.
Responding to claims made by Governor Adeleke against security agencies and the APC, Fadahunsi said the governor was worried about losing the election.
“If Governor Adeleke is accusing the police, army, APC and others, it means he is afraid of defeat,” he said.
Fadahunsi urged people in Osun East to come out and vote peacefully. He said he was confident that the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), would win the election.
