The media office of Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, OFR, has issued a strong rebuttal to recent comments attributed to Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over alleged misinterpretation of the senator’s remarks.
In a statement signed by Omole Olusegun Omo-Osodi, Head of Media and Public Enlightenment, the office insisted that Obi “needs to be schooled on how to interfere in political matters,” adding that anyone who does not understand Yoruba is free to seek interpretation rather than “attacking the innocent and respected lawmaker.”
The media office maintained that Senator Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District and chairs the Senate Committee on Industries, has never wished anyone dead and remains committed to peace.
“Our principal has never and will never wish anyone dead, not to talk of his constituents. Our principal is a peaceful man,” Omole stated.
According to the statement, the senator’s comment was made within the context of the forthcoming election and was intended as a call for voters to defeat the Accord Party through the ballot box, rather than an incitement to violence.
The media office further alleged that Obi and others deliberately misinterpreted or distorted the senator’s remarks for political advantage, while also criticising what it described as an increasing reliance on social media narratives. It claimed Obi had aligned with online commentators who had attacked Senator Fadahunsi.
In a further escalation, the office demanded that Peter Obi and others who allegedly misrepresented the senator’s statement retract their comments and issue an apology within 72 hours or face legal action.
“I unequivocally advise Mr. Obi and his co-social media politicians to apologise within 72 hours or face litigation,” Omole said.
The statement also questioned the logic behind claims that Senator Fadahunsi would wish harm on any of his constituents, noting that supporters of the PDP, Accord, APC, and other parties all fall within the senator’s representation in Osun East.
“I can’t imagine how Obi and his social media politicians think Senator Fadahunsi will want any of those he represents dead,” he added.
The media office concluded by reiterating its demand that Peter Obi withdraw what it described as harmful statements and tender an apology to Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, OFR.
