The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that Governor Ademola Adeleke is planning to instigate a political crisis ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election through the alleged procurement of a court order to facilitate the arrest of newly sworn-in executives of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, and signed by the party's Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the APC claimed it had uncovered what it described as a coordinated plan to secure the arrest of the state chairman and local government chairmen of the newly inaugurated NURTW leadership.
According to the opposition party, the alleged plan involves the use of judicial processes to intimidate and remand the union leaders before the forthcoming governorship election.
The APC further alleged that Governor Adeleke's recent remarks at a political rally in Osogbo, where he described himself as the Chief Security Officer of the state, were part of a broader strategy aimed at laying the groundwork for the planned arrests.
The party also claimed that criminal charges had been initiated against some of the NURTW executives for what it described as politically motivated reasons. It alleged that instead of serving the affected individuals personally, efforts were being made to obtain permission for substituted service as part of a process that could eventually lead to their arrest and remand.
According to the statement, the matter is scheduled to come up again before a High Court on Thursday, August 6, 2026. The APC alleged that the planned legal action forms part of a wider political strategy intended to intimidate the transport union leadership and create tension in the state before the election.
The party also alleged that certain political actors were working with a judicial officer to execute the plan, although it admitted that investigations were still ongoing to establish the identity of the judge allegedly involved.
The APC urged the Osun State Judiciary to remain impartial and avoid allowing itself to be used as an instrument for political persecution.
"It won't be dignifying for the judiciary to allow its name to be dragged in the mud because of politics," the statement said, while questioning the urgency of the alleged legal proceedings during the ongoing judicial vacation.
The opposition party further called on the Inspector-General of Police and other national security agencies to closely monitor political developments in Osun State and take proactive measures to prevent any breakdown of law and order before, during and after the governorship election.
The APC also urged security agencies to pay attention to Governor Adeleke's comments at Monday's political rally in Osogbo, alleging that his remarks contained inflammatory references capable of heightening political tension.
As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Government had not issued any official response to the APC's allegations.
The governorship election in Osun State is scheduled to hold on August 15, 2026.
