The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of three workers of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) in Ibadan.
The workers were reportedly abducted while inspecting crops on a farm within the institute's premises.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Ibadan on Friday.
According to the police, security officers began an operation soon after receiving the report. The operation aims to rescue the three workers and arrest those behind the abduction.
The police said a manhunt had also been launched to find the kidnappers and bring them to justice.
“The Oyo State Police Command confirms a kidnapping incident involving three staff members of the CRIN, who were abducted while inspecting crops on a farm within the institute’s premises,” the statement said.
The command also called on members of the public to share any useful information that could help security officers rescue the victims.
It urged anyone with reliable information about the incident to report to the nearest police station or contact the command through its emergency channels.
The police assured the public that efforts were ongoing to secure the safe release of the abducted workers.
