About 14 teams vied for honour at this year’s Iwude Ijesa Handball Competition sponsored by Iwude-Ijesa Planning Committe under the leadership of High Chief Olu Falomo the Loofosan of Ifosan, Ilesa.
Tagged ‘ Iwude-Ijesa Cup,’ the handball competition is the first of its kind in recent time and it was an idea of Mrs. Wumi Ogunfolaju, a one time Handball player/coach who saw the need to resuscitate the game and encourage Handball players in Ijesaland This year’s competition held between 17 and 20 December, 2018 at the Sports Centre, Ilesa Government High School, Ilesa.
The competition aimed to support government’s efforts to discover talents and develop potentials and make Ijesaland in Osun State and Southwest Nigeria the centre of handball development in Nigeria.
This edition was won by the Future Leaders Handball Team of Iddo-Ijesa. Cash prizes and the championship trophy were given out to the winners by the Chairman of the Iwude-Ijesa Sport Committee, Hon. Dosu Babatunde.
