Adeleke Scraps OYES Corps...Sacks 20,000 beneficiaries...

About 30,000 youths working under the states Government as Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme popularly known as (O-YES), has been dissolved by Governor Ademola Adeleke today, creating his own scheme named after his name “Imole Youth Corps”

In a circular issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon Teslim Igbalaye, the State Government said the decision was taken to reposition the Youth empowerment programme inherited from the previous government for effective functionality, sustainability and dignity of labour.

You will recall that OYES was introduced on the 17th day of December, 2010 by Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola in less than 100 days as governor in fulfilment of a manifesto promise earlier made to the people.

The OYES scheme empowers about 30,000 volunteers across the state’s 31 Local Government Areas including Ife East Area Office. Former Governor Oyetola in 2019 had emphasized that OYES is a wonderful legacy scheme, which must be sustained despite paucity of funds, because it drastically reduced restiveness, poverty and possibility of vices among youths in the state, stating that an unengaged youth is a tool for devil’s vices this made him increased the stipend of the Cadets from N10,000 to 12500 while the OYES teachers’ corps allowance was increased to N15,000 from N10,000.

According to a statement obtained by our correspondent stated that Adeleke said the Application forms for the new scheme will be available for prospective youths in all the 30 LGs including Ife East Area Office of the State FREE of charge beginning from Friday, 17th February, 2023.”

This is the same Adeleke government who sacked 1500 teachers engaged by the previous government immediately he assumed office in November last year. This action by the governor came some days later after some OYES Cadets wrote a letter pleading for government to pay their December and January allowance.
