 ‎
‎Delivering the 2026 Distinguished Personality Lecture, titled “The Paths of Alternative Dispute Resolution and Information Technology: What Is More and What Is Less?”, Justice Tayo Bello highlighted the growing relevance of artificial intelligence (AI) and information technology in the administration of justice and the resolution of disputes.

‎
‎Justice Bello, a former Dean of the Faculty of Law, Adeleke University, Ede, and Adjunct Professor of Arbitration and Law at the University of Ibadan, called for a comprehensive regulatory framework to guide the application of artificial intelligence and information technology in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in Nigeria.

‎
‎He acknowledged that technological innovations offer opportunities for faster, more accessible and efficient dispute resolution but cautioned that their application must be properly regulated to protect confidentiality, electronic evidence and the rights of parties.

‎
‎The guest lecturer also identified cybersecurity threats, data protection concerns, algorithmic bias and the possible exclusion of individuals without access to digital infrastructure as issues requiring serious attention.

‎
‎He maintained that artificial intelligence should complement, rather than replace, human judgment and the professional and ethical responsibilities of lawyers, arbitrators and mediators.

‎
‎On alternative dispute resolution, Justice Bello emphasised that its success depends largely on the willingness of all parties to embrace the process, as well as the principles of impartiality, fairness and mutual agreement.

‎

‎In their goodwill messages, the Orangun of Oke-Ila, Oba Adedokun Abolarin; Dr. Oladimeji Alo; Right Reverend Ojofeitimi; and the Osun State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Oluwole Jimi-Bada, joined other speakers in celebrating Justice Onibokun.

‎
‎They commended her professional integrity, generosity and enduring commitment to humanity, particularly her invaluable contributions to supporting, encouraging and empowering law students.

‎
‎In her response, Justice Onibokun expressed profound appreciation to the traditional rulers, technocrats, legal practitioners, clergymen, academics, family members and other distinguished guests who honoured her with their presence.

‎
‎She pledged to remain committed to service and assured her admirers that she would not rest on her laurels.

‎
‎The respected jurist also called on Nigerians and relevant stakeholders to invest in the future of law students through adequate support, mentorship and opportunities, stressing that such investments were essential to building the renewed and progressive legal system the country aspires to achieve.

‎
‎Justice Onibokun, who was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1984 and elevated to the Osun State High Court Bench in 2005, is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Nigeria. She has also made notable contributions to the advancement of arbitration and mediation practice.

‎
‎The lecture attracted an impressive gathering of eminent personalities from across the country, particularly members of the legal profession, alongside traditional rulers and representatives of the traditional institution across Ijesaland.

‎

‎The traditional delegation was led by the Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, His Imperial Majesty, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, who was represented at the occasion by the Obaala of Ilesa.

‎
‎The celebration provided an opportunity to recognise Justice Onibokun's distinguished career and contributions to society, while also drawing attention to the importance of technology, fairness and innovation in shaping the future of Nigeria's justice system.
