The “Legacy Bridge” that spans the Obokun Avenue–Oke‑Ibukun Stadium stretch of the Osun‑Ankara road in Ilesa East Local Government, Osun State is deteriorating rapidly and is now deemed a “death trap” by local residents.
Constructed during the administration of former Governor Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as part of a broader effort to link the Ilesa ring‑road, the bridge has suffered severe cracking, exposed reinforcement and sagging sections over the past year. KAKAKIOODUA correspondent who inspected the structure says it could collapse without warning, posing a serious risk to motorists and pedestrians.
The road is frequently used by Segilola Mining Company workers, daily moving from Ilesa to Iperindo.
Community leaders are calling the attention of the Osun State Commissioner for Works, urging immediate intervention. “We are calling on the commissioner to inspect the bridge urgently and take remedial action before a tragedy occurs,” said a spokesperson for the Oke-Ibukun Landlords and Tenants Association.
The bridge is a state‑owned asset, and its failure would cut off a vital transportation artery linking residential areas to the Oke‑Ibukun Stadium and the broader Ilesa ring‑road network.
Trucks and SUVs are advised to avoid the bridge until repairs are made.
