‎Adebayo Adedamola Wins PDP Governorship Ticket in Osun

‎Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola, popularly known as “FRYO,” was declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the 2026 Osun gubernatorial election after securing 919 of the 957 valid votes cast in the party’s primary held at the Adolak Event Centre in Osogbo.

‎The primary, which began at 11:07 a.m., was overseen by a committee led by primary chairman Humphrey Abba, with representatives from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the PDP national secretariat in attendance. Security was tight, featuring officers from the Department of State Security (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) stationed at the venue’s entrances and exits.

‎Abba announced the result, noting that 20 ballots were declared void and that one aspirant had withdrawn earlier. “The candidate that got the remaining votes is Adebayo Adedamola with 919 votes and stands elected and returned,” he said

‎The primary was contested between Adedamola and Governor Ademola Adeleke, whose name remained on the ballot despite his resignation from the PDP on November 4, 2025, citing the party’s national leadership crisis. Secretary of the primary committee, Sunday Solarin, warned that any votes for Adeleke would be “wasted,” urging delegates to follow voting instructions.

‎Governor Adeleke’s resignation letter, addressed to PDP Ward 2 Chairman Sagba Abogunde in Ede, expressed gratitude for the opportunities afforded to him as a Senator and Governor under the PDP banner.

‎With Adedamola now the PDP flag‑bearer, attention turns to the upcoming general election on August 8, 2026, and to Adeleke’s future political moves.
