Nigerian Intelligence Agencies begins investigation on China’s involvement in financing terrorism






The Defence Headquarters, Abuja, Media Operations has said that intelligence agencies have started to investigate China’s alleged involvement in terrorism financing and other clandestine operations in the country.


The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Musa Danmadami, while making reference to a publication by a British Newspaper, which claimed that China is funding terrorism in Nigeria, said that there are many theories as to who is funding conflicts and terrorism in the country.


Recall that a report by The Times of the United Kingdom claimed terrorism and terror groups in Nigeria were financed by the Chinese Government.


The report dated April 15, 2023 and titled, “Chinese ‘bribed Nigerian militants for access to vast mineral reserves” had claimed that “Beijing could be indirectly funding terror” in Nigeria.


But reacting, the Nigerian military top spokesperson, said, “The intelligence agencies have various leads they are working on which previously resulted in many arrests.”


He noted the success of other military operations, saying 206 kidnapped victims in the North East were rescued and 24 unrepentant terrorists were killed in different combats by troops of Operation HADIN Kai.


It was also reported that troops of Operation Whirl Stroke responded to terrorist activities in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State which led to the rescue of 30 injured victims.


It was learnt that within the period under review, a terrorist leader was arrested in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, while four suspected kidnappers were arrested from Nimba forest in Riyom, Plateau state and 46 illegal refining sites were deactivated by troops of Operation Delta Safe.


Major General Danmadami assured that troops would continue to go all out against terrorists in the country.
