The Shipowners Association of Nigeria (SOAN) has commended the Federal Government for creating the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and also appointing a former governor of Osun State, Chief Gboyega Oyetola, to head the new ministry.
In a letter to the minister signed by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of SOAN, Prince Chibudom Nwuche, released on Sunday, the association said the creation of the ministry has put Nigeria in the same competitive league with other African countries such as South Africa, Seychelles and Mauritius.
The association said the creation of the ministry signalled the government’s preparedness “to unlock huge potential revenues and many thousands of jobs for hard working Nigerians.”
SOAN also congratulated the minister on his appointment by President Bola Tinubu, saying, it is “a huge testament to the trust Mr. President has in your ability to deliver on vision of a vibrant maritime industry in our country.”
The association said it was confident that the minister would deploy his wealth of experience in working diligently for the benefit of the country’s economy
