Adefowora Abiodun, one of the individuals declared wanted in connection with the cryptocurrency platform Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX), has voluntarily surrendered to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for investigation.
Accompanied by his legal team, Abiodun appeared at the EFCC headquarters at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, signaling his readiness to cooperate with investigators. He is one of four persons previously declared wanted by the EFCC for alleged involvement in a fraudulent investment scheme worth over $1 billion.
The EFCC had listed Seyi Oloyede, Emmanuel Uko, Adefowora Oluwanisola, and Adefowora Abiodun Olaonipekun among those wanted in connection to the CBEX scheme.
Last Thursday, the Federal High Court in Abuja authorized the EFCC to arrest and detain six suspected CBEX promoters, pending the completion of investigations and potential prosecution. Justice Emeka Nwite granted the order following an ex parte motion by EFCC counsel Fadila Yusuf.
In his ruling, Justice Nwite stated: “I have listened to the submission of learned counsel for the applicant (EFCC). I have also gone through the affidavit evidence and exhibits, along with the written address. I am satisfied that the application is meritorious and hereby grant it as prayed.”
The court order names Adefowora Abiodun Olanipekun, Adefowora Oluwanisola, Emmanuel Uko, Seyi Oloyede, Avwerosuo Otorudo, and Chukwuebuka Ehirim as suspects.
Speaking on behalf of his client, legal representative Babatunde Busari, Esq., said Abiodun’s decision to surrender was motivated by a desire to clear his name and address the media narratives surrounding the case.
