Renowned journalist and founder of Agidigbo FM, Dr. Oriyomi Hamzat, is reportedly gearing up to contest the Oyo State governorship position ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sources indicate that political momentum is building around Hamzat’s candidacy, as campaign posters and billboards bearing the slogan “Oyo ’n Pe O” have begun surfacing across the state. Initially shrouded in mystery, investigations have now confirmed that Dr. Hamzat is the figure behind the emerging movement.
A statement posted on the official Oyo’n Pe O social media page addressed criticisms directed at his transition from media to politics. It stated:
“The claim that ‘governance is more than speaking into a microphone’ reflects a misunderstanding of leadership. Broadcasting is rooted in communication, empathy, and connection—traits that are fundamental to good governance.”
The post went further to defend his suitability for political office, asserting that Dr. Hamzat’s media journey has demonstrated his capacity to engage the public, amplify social issues, and effect change.
“Those who reduce his potential to his profession are either misinformed or biased. Leadership is not defined by profession but by vision, courage, and commitment to service,” the statement added.
Supporters highlight Hamzat’s philanthropic efforts, his leadership at Agidigbo FM, and his strong influence in Ibadan and beyond. They believe his people-centric approach could bring a more compassionate, responsive style of governance to Oyo State.
Since its inception just four years ago, Agidigbo FM has risen to become one of Oyo’s most influential media outlets, outpacing older stations in reach and resonance. His wide followership, both locally and in the diaspora, is cited as further evidence of his leadership potential.
