KAKAKIOODUA on the Knighthood Investiture of Dame Caroline Folorunso Lasore (BRIEF PROFILE WITH PHOTOS)




 


The conferment of Knighthood is an ancient custom to honor men and women who have served in their respective callings as defenders of the Christian faith.







The investiture of 89-year-old Mama Caroline Folorunso Lasore as a Knight of St. John is a proof that society, indeed, rewards selflessness. The Ilesa Diocese Anglican Communion under the able leadership of our Bishop, The Most Reverend Prof. Dapo Folorunso Asaju truly took note of her big heart in the service of our Lord for this honour. 




The solemn ceremony that took place on Saturday 3rd May, 2025 at Basilica of Christ Camp Stephen, Ilesa-Akure expressway, Ilesa Osun State marks her official recognition and membership within the order.



The investiture ceremony of Mama Lasore alongside other 26 candidates took the form of a formal event featuring a prayer service, the reading of the order's statutes, presentation of the candidates by the Provost of the Cathedral of St. John, Iloro, Ilesa, Very Rev A. M. Fademi, examination, oath taking, investiture, dedication, presentation of the insignia of the order including the emblem of the order, sword and a certificate to the new knights.

The insignia, which may include a cross, badge, or mantle, are symbols of the Knight's membership and their commitment to the Order's mission.









The Knight.of St. John (KSJ), also known as Knight Hospitaller of Order of St. John began around 1048AD. It was officially recognized by Pope Paschar II , in 1113AD. It was established in medieval times to provide care for the sick, poor and injured pilgrims in the Holy Land.


It developed into one of the most powerful military order during the crusades. They took on military role, defending the Christian and pilgrims against Muslim forced, especially, the Ottomans. They were one of the most prominent Orders, alongside the Knights Templar and the Tentanic Knights. They took the territory for Christ, such as Island of Malta until Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte dislodged them. The Order combined Monastic life with Military discipline, making them Warrior Monks dedicated to defending Christianity.




BRIEF PROFILE


Mama Caroline Folorunso Lasore was born on 20th April 1936 at Igbaye, Odo-Otin Local Government near Okuku, Osun State. Her parents were: Pa Jacob Omotugbobo Eso and Madam Felicia Faleye Eso, (Nee Ilariogun from Odo-Oja, Ijebujesa), both of blessed memory. Her father was then the chairman of the Osomalos in Odo-Otin. Her mother, who was a Kolanut trader was the third wife of her father and Caroline was the third child of her mother.


EDUCATION




Caroline Lasore started school at St. Mary's Anglican School Igbaye (1946-49); from there to Odo-Otin United School, Okuku (1950).Her parents left Igbaye finally for Ilesa on the 24th of December, 1950.She then enrolled as a Standard 3 student of St. John's School A, Iloro, Ilesa in January 1951and sat for her Primary School Leaving Certificate Examination in December 1954 as the last Standard 6 set. She was the first female child of her family that finished Standard 6. She could not proceed to Modern School because of the death of her father on April 2, 1955. She was aiming to be a teacher, but she got no helper.




Mama Caroline Lasore secured a job as a Clerk at the patent medicine shop of Mr. Oriowo, a Jehovah witness, where she worked till November 1956 in Ilesa. She later got a teaching appointment in January 1956 and was posted to Ekosin Baptist Primary School and later got transferred to Modakeke Baptist School, Itaasin in January 1958.





She met her husband, late Titus Adebisi Lasore, in September 1955 and got married to him in December 1958. The marriage led to her break in teaching service since she relocated to the Northern part of Nigeria with her husband. They both relocated back to  the Southern part of Nigeria after two decades in the north and settled in such places as Esa-Odo, Efon-Alaye and Ilesa where her husband worked as a teacher and Caroline was supporting the home and the children and also operating patent medicine shop the 'Alafia Tayo Medicine Shop" mixed with petty trading by the side.


However, after many years of break in teaching service she returned in July 1973 to pursue her dreamed career as a teacher.She later proceeded to Okitipupa Divisional Teachers' Training College, Ode-Aye in 1974 and passed out with merits and credits in 1977 as a Grade 2 teacher. She did her Associateship Certificate of Education under the University of Ibadan in the year 1987. She taught in many schools in Ijesaland and retired because of age in October 1999.


MARITAL LIFE


She had a successful and very happy marriage with her husband who transited into eternal glory on 8th January 2015. The marriage produced six children; Babatunde , Oladimeji, Bolanle, Rotimi, Abimbola and Adebayo (4 males and 2 females) who are doing well in their various professions. She is also surrounded by grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


CHURCH ACTIVITIES



She was a Children’s service teacher of Anglican churches, while she was in St’ Peter Anglican Ibokun and continued with St’ John Cathedral Iloro Ilesha from 1976 to 2016.


Full member of the Mothers Union of St. John Cathedral, Iloro, Ilesa where she was made an Enrolling member from 1988 to 2006. Her membership as Diocese Mothers Union also started from St’ Peter Anglican Ibokun.


She was also a member of the sub-committee of the Diocesan Mothers' Union since 1990 to date.


She is Mother-in-Israel at Church of Resurrection, Bolorunduro, Oke Ayao, as honoured during the Women’s Harvest 2017.




Her late husband and herself were the first set to be honoured as Best Couple of the Year in the Cathedral archdeaconries in 2001.


She was Guest of Honor at St. Luke's Bolorunduro Women's Harvest 2004.


She was among the first set of Evangelism mission and discipleship in Ilesa Diocese under the Rt. Rev. Adebola Ademowo.


Guest of Honor at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Ifewara Women Harvest 2012.


Exceptional Mother during the pre-mothering Sunday 2024.


She is a member of Iloro Youth Christian Society.
