MRS MEWOLAKA OLATOMI MODUPE SASEYI was born on May 7, 1933, into the family of Late Chief Samuel Akinola (the Sawe of llesa) and Janet Ajayi Akinola (née Longe Faloyo).
From the moment of her arrival, it was clear she brought divine favor-so much so that her grandfather affectionately named her lyabo, meaning "Mother has returned," signifying the blessings that came with her birth.
She was the second of six children and began her educational journey at St. John's Cathedral School, lloro, Ilesa in 1939. Her intelligence, discipline, and leadership skills quickly set her apart, earning her the position of Head Girl-a testament to her promise even at a young age.
Her professional journey began as a civilian staff at the Nigerian Army Headquarters in Kaduna during the colonial era. Following Nigeria's independence, many foreign military officers left the country, but not before fondly requesting "Modupeh," as they called her, to accompany them abroad. She graciously declined, choosing to serve her own country with steadfast loyalty.
Mewolaka went on to have a distinguished career. She worked at Finance Corporation, Ibadan (Oyo State). She later joined Barclays Bank of Nigeria (now Union Bank) as a typist/secretary, rising through the ranks after earning her Pitman's and other banking Certifications, eventually becoming a senior administrative officer and later served as a sub-manager at the lkirun and Ile-Ife bank branches.
Above all, Mewolaka was a devout servant of God. She answered the call to ministry, becoming a Lay Reader in the Anglican Communion at llesa and later pursued theological studies at Emmanuel College of Theology, lbadan where she became one of Nigeria's pioneering female priests. She served the Lord with unwavering dedication until her final breath.
