The Patron of Osun State Chapter of Cocoa Association of Nigeria, Otunba Gabriel Emiola Ogunsanya, has called on members of the Osun State Chapter of Cocoa Farmers Association of Nigeria to ensure the sale of only good quality cocoa beans across the state.
Otunba Ogunsanya spoke when members of the newly elected officials of the Association led by Mr. Tajudeen Odulana paid him a courtesy visit in Ijesa, Oriade local government, Osun State.
He called on the newly elected Chairman to push for the improvement of the wellbeing of farmers by partnering with the agricultural revolution of President Bola Tinunu with the emerging international recognition of cocoa production as a foreign exchange earner.
Otunba Ogunsanya also advised on partnering with the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) in the production of seedlings that will planted to replace old ones and the importance of using organic fertilisers for better yield.
"This Exco should hit the ground running. You should stop farmers from selling their lands to foreigners for mining or building purposes.
"You strife to produce cocoa beans well to avoid rejection in the world market.
"You should try to encourage the buyers, exporters, processors and agro chemical dealers to join the association to build the economy of the association.
"Once again, I greet the new executives, they should work harder to develop cocoa more and to encourage the youths in planting.
And as your Patron, you should not hesitate to call on me when the needs arises."
