A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Otunba Segun Adewale, popularly known as Aeroland, has announced his resignation from the party, saying he will soon communicate his next political steps.
Adewale made the announcement in a resignation letter posted on his Facebook page, stating that his nearly two decades of contributions to the party’s progress had been overshadowed by recent developments which made his departure inevitable.
He said the unending internal power struggles had severely weakened the PDP, transforming it from a once-leading political force into a diminished entity at both the national and state levels.
The statement read in part:
“I formally renounce my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately. Nearly two decades of contributing to the party’s progress in various roles have been overshadowed by recent events that make my departure necessary.
“Key factors driving my decision include the actions of Chief Bode George and his associates, who consistently undermine the party’s electoral success by collaborating with opposition forces. Despite repeated electoral failures – unable to win his polling unit, ward or produce a councillor – the party leadership has rewarded him, absolving him of wrongdoing while he exploits Lagos PDP for personal gain with opposition elements.
“Chief Bode George has previously urged members to defect to the Labour Party and ADP for selfish motives, sparking prolonged conflicts with loyal party members who opposed his anti-party stance. These unending internal power struggles have severely damaged the PDP, transforming a once-leading party into a weakened entity at both national and state levels.
“For these reasons, I, Otunba Segun Adewale, resign from the PDP. I will communicate my next steps in my political journey to supporters soon. Currently, I am focusing on business and family, which I have neglected over 15 years of political pursuit.”
