I feel highly honoured and humbled to have been invited by the celebrator to say word or two as he marks his 70th birthday. My first contact with Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi was within the last couple of years. However, I got to know him closer after he had become a member of Egbe Atunluse lle Ijesa (Ijesa Improvement Society).
He initiated and spearheaded quite a number of innovations that could transform the economic and social trajectory of Ijesa land. This was ever before he was installed the Asiwaju of Ijesa land.
Our Asiwaju is a man of vision and a consummator of laudable ideas, I cannot help but wonder if he allows himself the luxury of an adequate night rest. His IBADAN BUSINESS SCHOOL is a clear testimony to a man of substance, high standard and exquisite taste. The Asiwaju of Ijesa land’s portfolio which indeed Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi has configured is of such enormous dimension that might present a succession problem no matter how long he has perfected the demands of the position.
There is a sense in which Asiwaju is indeed an enigma; he combines so many enviable attributes which include humility, forthrightness, fecundity of ideas, generosity, charity, among several other attributes.
In his short period as the Asiwaju of Ijesa land our own Yinka Fasuyi has roused our entire land from slumber to undoubted awareness through the several battles he has spearheaded on behalf of Ijesaland ranging from the issue of University of Ilesa to the confrontation with those who are exploiting and despoiling our land in the name of gold mining to the detriment of our people. Not to forget his role and initiative in curbing youth restiveness and unemployment by initiating scholarship schemes in technical education and agriculture for the teeming Ijesa youth.
On this landmark anniversary of his birth, I wish to congratulate Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi and to wish him many more years of service to Ijesaland and humanity.
