‎Owa Obokun Suspends Ilesa High Chief over Missing Transformers

‎The Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, has suspended the Oba Odo of Ilesa, High Chief James Busuyi Gbadamosi (Ilufemiloye Dapaada 1) over an allegation that he sold two community transformers.

‎High Chief Gbadamosi is also Secretary of the Agba Nla Council of Ijesaland, and one of the 13 Afobajes of the throne of Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesa.

‎The suspension followed the chief’s arrest by the police in Ilesa after he allegedly failed to cooperate with investigators by refusing to write a statement.

‎In a Facebook post, Isaac Haastrup, media aide to the monarch, confirmed the development.

‎He said, “Update on Atakumosa market transformers: Police detain Oba Odo of Ilesa for non-cooperation, as the Owa Obokun suspends him pending police investigation.”

‎The trouble started when residents of Araromi community, Ilesa, petitioned the Owa’s Panel on Conduct, Chieftaincy Matters and Boundary Disputes, accusing Chief Gbadamosi of selling the transformers.

‎But the embattled high chief denied the allegation, insisting that the transformers were only taken to Ibadan for repairs and that he was merely helping the community restore power.

‎In a trending video, Owa Haastrup was seen issuing a stern order to Chief Gbadamosi, directing him to return the two transformers without delay. The monarch further assured that a low-bed truck would be provided to convey the equipment back to Ilesa.

‎The Owa also expressed readiness to engage engineers and the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to verify the repair status of the transformers.

‎The police investigation is still ongoing as the suspension continues to generate reactions within Ijesaland.
