Akinlalu Community Rejects Media Reports, Accuses Amotekun of Extrajudicial Kil!ings

Akinlalu community in Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State has strongly refuted media reports suggesting that operatives of the Amotekun Corps were ambushed by armed hoodlums in the town on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

In a statement issued by community representatives, residents described the reports published in major national dailies including The Punch and Vanguard as “false, baseless and malicious.” The community insisted it has no history of harbouring criminals or engaging in violent confrontations.

According to the petition, the incident unfolded when Amotekun operatives allegedly stormed Akinlalu and, without provocation, opened fire on unarmed residents. Witnesses claimed that four youths were k!lled on the spot, while several women and children sustained gunshot injuries.

“They conducted themselves not as security agents but as hoodlums and bandits,” the community leaders alleged, accusing the corps of acting outside the law and betraying their mandate to safeguard lives and property.

The community further rejected what it called a “false media narrative” that sought to criminalize its residents. Instead, it called on the Osun State Government, the Attorney General, the Commissioner of Police, and the National Human Rights Commission to investigate the k!llings and ensure justice for the victims.

“The good people of Akinlalu will not allow these falsehoods to stand unchallenged,” the petition concluded.

At the time of filing this report, neither the Amotekun Corps nor the Osun State Government had officially responded to the community’s allegations.
