The world is full of great men and women who leave indelible marks on the globe for their outstanding performance and relevance while on the firmament.
Such individuals may not be celebrated or acknowledged while alive.
For us in Ijesa land, we are blessed with a unique individual that keeps blazing the trail in unrivalled commitment and dedication to the unity, growth and development of our fatherland. It is for this that one is celebrating Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi on the attainment of 70 years as a human being.
One is proud to have known Chief Fasuyi for close to 30 years. He came into Ilesa Grammar School after we had left and also underwent his tertiary studies at the University of Ibadan, a few years after I had my first degree at the same university.
Our paths came together at the Ibadan Recreation Club at a time when he was the membership secretary of the club. He recruited me into membership. His trajectory in the business world and social circuits are very well documented for all to perceive.
His uniqueness has become manifested and magnified when Owa Obokun Adimula His Imperial Majesty, Dr. Adekunle Aromolaran installed him as Asiwaju of Ilesa and later the Asiwaju of Ijesa land.
Asiwaju Fasuyi has as unbelievable quantum of self – belief. He is a “Never say die” achiever. We all know him as a unique mobiliser of men and materials. Owa’s palace; Geriatric Hospital, Youth empowerment in all its ramifications and the new Owa’s Coronation are some of the projects that got executed through the leadership and mobilizing efforts of Asiwaju.
I have on occasions confessed to him on my marvel at the energy and time (apart from resources) that he has devoted to the cause of Ijesa land. Our elders who had motivated us all have at various fora given kudos to Asiwaju for his untiring efforts at Ijesa land renaissance.
He is the Marshall of the unitary force that binds our traditional rulers, and by extension the elites and populace of Ijesa land. He is never tired of encouraging togetherness and unity among our Obas and chiefs.
Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi is a hard-nosed entrepreneur and the Osomalo tenets at the heart of his diligence, integrity, accountability and transparency in all matters of finance concerning all the Pan-Ijesa projects that he has taken upon himself to lead.
He is a real Omoluwabi.
On the personal level, I know him to accommodate all and sundry in his social interactions, although he does not suffer fools ever slightly. A philanthropist of note in business community and even church domains, he loves having people around him.
Asiwaju’s ability to recall dates and times of past events is amazing. It’s a great testimony to his vast intelligence and power of recall. A well-known Fashionista, one wonders how he could carry all those extra heavy and decorated garments that stand him out of any crowd all the time.
As Olayinka Fasuyi clocks 70 years today, I celebrate him and wish him very many more years of healthy and peaceful living in the service of Ijesa land.
To Yeye Asiwaju, Chief (Dr) Mrs. Olubisi Fasuyi, I congratulate you in the journey of co-habitation so far and pray for continuing conjugal bliss.
HAPPY CELEBRATION!!!
Signed:
Prof. Olurotimi Tayo JP, FAAS
