The Governing Council of the Osun State College of Health Technology, Ilesa, has revealed plans to reclaim a parcel of land belonging to the institution but currently occupied by another government agency.
This was contained in a statement signed by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Kingsley Omoyeni, and made available to journalists in Osogbo on Tuesday.
According to Omoyeni, the Governing Council also resolved to commence the process of upgrading the College from its current monotechnic status to that of a polytechnic.
He explained that the decision formed part of the key resolutions reached during the Council’s meeting, held recently at the College premises.
The Chairman of the Governing Council, Abayomi Adegoke, while addressing members of the Council, reiterated that the development and transformation of the College remained a top priority for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.
Adegoke noted that the Governor was determined to uphold the College’s reputation as the foremost health training institution in the country, urging all stakeholders to support the ongoing developmental drive.
He said, “We must all join hands together without wasting time to ensure the growth of this great institution. That is the mandate given to us by the Governor, and we must strive to achieve it as soon as possible.”
“It is our collective responsibility to ensure that the name and face of this College changes for good. It is time this College began to compare with other campuses in the country in terms of physical structures and aesthetics. I am sure we can achieve it with determination and clear focus,” he added.
Adegoke further disclosed that the Council had resolved to reclaim the portion of land currently occupied by the Ministry of Water Resources, describing it as a valuable asset to the institution.
“As resolved at the Council meeting, let’s begin to set every necessary machinery in motion to reclaim the portion of land that belongs to our College, which the Ministry of Water Resources have been occupying for many years,” he said.
“It is a piece of land that is strategically located, and it will no doubt be of huge economic benefit to the College by the time we put it into use. There are a lot of things which we can do on the land which will boost our Internally Generated Revenue,” he added.
The Chairman also called for immediate steps to strengthen the security architecture within and around the College, noting the importance of safeguarding lives and property.
“It is time we engage the services of a Chief Security Officer for the College,” Adegoke said.
In his remarks, the Provost of the institution, Dr Lateef Olarewaju, assured the Governing Council of the management’s readiness to work diligently towards achieving the objectives set by the Board.
