A burial ceremony in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State turned violent on Friday when suspected thugs attacked popular Fuji musician, Abass Akande, known as Obesere, and his band.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived suddenly while Obesere and his band were performing, unleashing violence that sent guests running for safety. Several band members were beaten, and musical instruments and equipment were damaged.
One band member was stabbed while trying to shield fellow performers. A witness, Bosede Akinyemi, described the attack as "disgraceful and unprovoked".
"It was a very shameful act. A group of local thugs disrupted the ceremony and specifically targeted Obesere and his band as they were entertaining guests," Akinyemi said.
The attack has raised concerns about security at public gatherings. Residents are calling on authorities to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice.
