Osun State — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Osun State has issued a press release urging all registered political parties to strictly adhere to the Electoral Act 2022 and the Commission's guidelines for the conduct of party primaries as the 2026 Osun State party primaries approach. In the statement signed by Public Affairs Officer Olurode Musa on behalf of Resident Electoral Commissioner Dr. Mutiu Agboke, INEC emphasized the need for free, fair, and peaceful primary elections that reflect the will of party members, noting that this is key to reducing pre-election litigations.

INEC pointed out that primary elections have often been a source of pre-election disputes, which can be avoided if parties follow established procedures and guidelines. The Commission is calling on political parties to ensure their primaries are transparent, democratic, and peaceful, with all aspirants given equal opportunities to participate.

According to the guidelines released by INEC's National Headquarters, the party primaries are scheduled to take place between 24th November and 15th December 2025. INEC stated it is prepared to provide necessary support and guidance to parties to ensure compliance with the law. The Commission also appealed to stakeholders, including security agencies, to support its efforts in ensuring peaceful and credible party primaries.

INEC warned that it will monitor political parties' activities and take appropriate actions within the law against any party that fails to comply with electoral laws and regulations.
