APC Bars Former National Secretary Omisore and Six Others from Osun Governorship Primary

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified former National Secretary and Senator Iyiola Omisore, along with six other aspirants, from contesting the party’s upcoming governorship primary in Osun State. The decision follows the report of the APC Screening Committee, chaired by Chief Obinna Uzoh, Esq., which concluded its work on December 4, 2025, at Amor Hotel, Katampe, Abuja.

The committee said the seven aspirants failed to meet the mandatory nomination requirement that each candidate be sponsored by at least five fully‑registered, financially up‑to‑date party members from every local government area in Osun State, as stipulated in Articles 9.3(i) and 31.2(ii) of the APC Constitution and Paragraph 6(c) of the party’s guidelines.

The disqualified candidates are:

- Sen. Iyiola Omisore

- Babatunde Haketer Oralusi

- Oyedotun Babayemi

- Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi

- Benedict Alabi

- Adegoke Rasheed Okiki

- Sen. Babajide Omoworare

Only two aspirants cleared the screening: Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji  ¹ ². The primary is scheduled for December 13, 2025, and the party’s flag‑bearer will face the incumbent governor in the 2026 Osun State election.

The committee’s report emphasized a rigorous, two‑stage process—document review and structured interviews—to ensure transparency and fairness  ⁴. It also noted a petition from the Osun APC Renewal Group, which prompted the committee to apply the same verification standards to all nine aspirants.

The APC National Working Committee is expected to ratify the screening report, and party leaders have called for reconciliation among factions to unify the party ahead of the general election.
