Renowned Fuji musician Otunba Wasiu Ayinde, better known as K1 De Ultimate, has formally declared his intention to be considered for the vacant throne of the Awujale of Ijebuland. In a letter dated 3 December 2025 and addressed to the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House in Agunsebi Quarters, Ijebu‑Ode, the MON‑holder said his interest is guided strictly by Ijebu customary law and the Ogun State Chieftaincy Laws.
Ayinde, born 3 March 1957, described himself as a “bonafide son” of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, tracing his lineage to the Oba Jadiara branch ¹. His declaration comes as the ruling house begins the traditional process of presenting candidates to fill the revered position, following the passing of Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON, who died on 13 July 2025.
The Fusengbuwa Ruling House has been given a 14‑day ultimatum by the Ijebu‑Ode Local Government to present qualified candidates for the Awujale stool ². The house has also been urged to ensure a transparent and peaceful selection process in line with tradition and the law.
Ayinde’s move is notable given his national prominence as a Fuji music icon and his recent involvement in cultural and philanthropic activities. The ruling house will now deliberate on his application along with any other candidates who meet the eligibility criteria set out in the chieftaincy laws.
The next steps in the succession process are expected to include a family meeting, followed by submission of candidate names to the Odis and the kingmakers, as per the rotational system among the four ruling houses.
