Gunmen stormed the border town of Ora‑Igbomina in Ifedayo Local Government Area of Osun State on Monday night, abducting a retired Nigerian Customs officer and shooting d@ad a local farmer.
According to the Inurin of Ora‑Igbomina, High Chief Sunday Fadipe, the attackers arrived around 7 p.m., forced their way into the officer’s home and seized him as he returned from work. While fleeing through farmland in the Akisa area, the gunmen encountered a farmer who was working with a headlamp; they allegedly opened fire, k!lling him instantly. The farmer’s 10‑year‑old son, who was with his father at the time, ran to the town to raise the alarm.
Chief Fadipe informed the police, and the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed that a report had been lodged. He said the Divisional Police Officer had visited the victim’s residence to gather details and that tactical teams, supported by forest guards, vigilantes and local security, were combing the bush to locate the kidnappers. The police commissioner, Ibrahim Gotan, has deployed additional units to the area and the investigation is ongoing.
The incident has heightened insecurity in the region, which borders Ekiti and Kwara states. Residents have called on the state government to beef up security and protect the community from further attacks.
