That we are all sojourners in this temporary abode of mortals called the world was emphatically and realistically confirmed recently with the sudden demise of Oba Philip Adegboyega Famodun, the III, the crowned 30th Owa of Igbajoland, on the 28th of November, 2025.
That I was one of the closest political associates of the fallen monarch could not be an overstatement as the fate that brought us together catapulted me into becoming his media consultant at a time that he was dictating the shot as the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State.
I am yet to come to terms with the reality of his death as it is still appearing that he merely underwent one of his journeys with the usual fixed date of arrival soonest.
The reality of the permanent passing of Oba FAMODUN, the 30th Owa of Igbajoland, dawned on me when the members of his biological and political families, friends, well-wishers, palace chiefs, princes and princesses of the town and the clerics all assembled in the ancient town where he ruled for three years to attend his wake keep service as a prelude to the burial of his remains in accordance with the tradition of the town on the 12th of December, 2025.
The demise of Oba Gboyega Famodun was particularly a great loss to me as it eternally denied me the usual free consultancy on political activities concerning the state right from the time before the state was created to date which has made him the encyclopedia of the contemporary political activities of the state.
At any slightest opportunity, Oba Gboyega Famodun would not fail to tell me that he underwent his political tutelage under that illustrious son of Ikirun, the late Alhaji Ahmed Kusamotu (1940 - 2005), a Nigerian lawyer who had a prominent political role as chairperson of the defunct National Republican Convention(NRC) during the last stages of the short-lived Third Republic.
This was after he had earlier started his political sojourn with the late Pa(Hon) Kola Balogun, sequel to the political meetings that his father, Oba Adelani Famodun II, was fond of taking him to when Osun and Ogbomoso were both under the same Senatorial District in the old Oyo State. That was when the young charismatic Gboyega was made the Assistant Youth Leader.
The 30th Owa of Igbajoland, Oba Philip Adegboyega Famodun III, was a rare breed of political leaders and monarchs as it's on record that he successfully lived a communal life throughout his 67-year tenancy in this world as he was fond of sharing items, money and pieces of advice to the needy.
Often times, the fallen Owa would tell me that the problems with some politicians is that they detach themselves from the people at the grassroots immediately they clinched either appointed or elected political offices when they elected to move to the Government Reservation Area(GRA) as a sign of new status symbol.
The late Oba Famodun disclosed to me that he preferred to live among the downtrodden masses who have formed his unsolicited rings of security operatives when the need arose.
Oba Adegboyega Famodun was a fantastic political enigma who had impacted many people irrespective of political leanings which was the reason why the people milled round him as ants do to sugar.
The attribute of unconditional forgiving spirit of Oba Philip Adegboyega Famodun was second to none as the keeping of permanent enemy is not in his dictionary.
The 30th Owa of Igbajoland was a loving husband of his wife, Olori Olubunmi; an affectionate father of his children; a role model to his siblings; a peace-loving monarch of his kingdom; a worthy ambassador of the Famodun Dynasty and an illustrious son of Igbajo who brought numerous developmental projects to his town as the state chairman of the ruling APC and as a monarch.
The Muslims who were used to be served free foods in the evenings during Ramadan festivals in front of his house at Famson Street area of Igbona, Osogbo, Osun State, would surely feel the passing of Oba Famodun who was every inch an Oba be it in carriage, actions, inactions and dispositions.
It is an unassailable fact that it would be pretty difficult to have a replacement for the vacuum left behind by the late Owa of Igbajoland, Oba Adegboyega Famodun III, in all the spheres of endeavours.
The joy in the whole development is that Oba Philip Adegboyega Famodun III joined his ancestors as the 30th Owa of Igbajoland which made him a fulfilled person.
Adieu Oba Philip Adegboyega Famodun III!
