The 2025 Iwude Ijesa Festival is gaining momentum, with the Ayo Olopon Competition on Thursday drawing large crowds to the Oke-emese Palace Square. The event, sponsored by the Falomo Family of Ifosan, Ilesa, saw 14 contestants vying for top honors, with Jonathan Idowu emerging victorious, followed by Ramoni Owoeye and Adekunle Adebayo.
The competition was preceded by a medical outreach by the TOH Foundation, offering free screenings for high blood pressure, diabetes, and other health risks. This initiative aligns with the festival's goal of promoting Ijesa culture and community development.
Dignitaries at the event included High Chief Saka Fopohunda, Ogboni of Ilesa; Chief Olu Falomo, loofosan of Ilesa; Prof. Rotimi Tayo, High Chief Hannah Bolanle Ojo, Yeyerise and Yeyesogba.
Also in attendance were representatives of Ijesaland Clubs and Societies (legbelegbes) and a group of Ijesa indigents from the Republic of Benin.
The Iwude Ijesa Festival celebrates Ijesa heritage and unity, attracting visitors from across the region. Today's (Friday) events include the commissioning of the OWA Ajimoko Multipurpose Building and the Iwude Ijesa Beauty Pageants competition at the Oba Aromolaran Event Centre.
