Popular Oyo State–based media personality and philanthropist, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 Oyo State governorship election on the platform of the Accord Party.
Hamzat made the declaration on Saturday during a well-attended public event held at the Liberty Stadium, Oke Ado, Ibadan, where a large crowd of supporters gathered to witness the announcement.
Speaking at the event, the founder of Agidigbo FM announced that he would no longer campaign or mobilise support for other politicians ahead of the next general elections. He stated that he had resolved to pursue his political ambition independently and confirmed his decision to run for the governorship under the Accord Party.
The declaration marks a significant shift in Hamzat’s political stance, as he has previously been known for supporting and mobilising massive followership for other candidates during past elections.
Hamzat’s entry into the governorship race comes amid growing political activities in Oyo State, as stakeholders and political actors begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
