Police Arrest Suspected Robber, Recover Stolen Vehicle After Midnight Attack in Akure






The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a stolen Toyota Camry following a midnight attack on residents of Eleyewo Quarters in Akure, the state capital.


The incident reportedly occurred at about 1:30 a.m. on Friday when four armed men attacked two residents, identified as Olamiposi and Daniel Omoniyi, and forcefully dispossessed them of their vehicle.


According to the police, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit were immediately deployed to the area after the command received a distress call. Before the arrival of the police team, the assailants allegedly fired gunshots, injuring the victims, and fled with the Toyota Camry bearing Lagos registration number KRD 814 HX.


A coordinated operation involving police operatives and vigilant youths in the community later led to the arrest of one suspect and the recovery of the stolen vehicle. A cutlass was also recovered from the suspect during the operation.


The Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, commended the SWAT operatives and members of the community for their swift response, stressing that timely and credible information played a critical role in the successful arrest.


The police further disclosed that the arrested suspect, identified as 35-year-old Nurudeen, confessed to his involvement in the crime, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang who are currently at large.
