The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has called on security agencies to intensify efforts in apprehending and prosecuting all those connected to the murder of the late Hon. Remi Abass, describing justice for the slain politician as the only meaningful way to immortalise him.
In a statement issued on Tuesday to mark the first anniversary of his death, the party said the continued prosecution of suspects and the arrest of other accomplices would serve as a fitting posthumous honour for the former reinstated Chairman of Irewole Local Government Area.
Abass was killed on February 17, 2025, at the council secretariat in Ikire while attempting to resume office following the reinstatement of APC local government chairmen and councillors by the Court of Appeal on February 10, 2025.
The Osun APC alleged that members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were responsible for the attack, claiming that the incident occurred amid heightened political tension across local government areas in the state.
According to the statement, several suspects are currently facing prosecution in an Abuja court, while the police have continued investigations to apprehend other individuals allegedly linked to the killing, regardless of their social or political status.
The party expressed confidence in the Nigeria Police Force to thoroughly unravel both the perpetrators and sponsors of the crime, stressing that justice must not only be done but be seen to be done.
Describing the late Abass as a “political colossus” and a grassroots mobiliser, the APC noted that his contributions to the party through bravery, resilience and political sagacity would be difficult to replace.
The party also extended prayers for the repose of his soul and asked God to grant his widow, children and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
The statement was signed by Mogaji Kola Olabisi, Osun State APC Director of Media and Information.
