Osogbo MPU Mourns Pastor Emmanuel Idowu, Describes His Death as Shocking

The Osogbo Branch of the Modakeke Progressive Union (MPU) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of one of its distinguished members, Pastor Emmanuel Adegoke Idowu, describing his passing as sudden and shocking.

In a press release dated February 18, 2026, and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the union, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the branch paid glowing tributes to the late cleric and technocrat, who until his death on February 12, 2026, served as Director of Finance and Budget in the Bursary Department of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Speaking on behalf of the union, the Osogbo-MPU Chairman, Mr. Yinka Odewale, said the news of Pastor Idowu’s demise came as a rude shock to members and well-wishers, noting that it still feels unreal to many.

Odewale described the deceased as a credible, cooperative, and resourceful member of the union who consistently deployed his God-given talents for the growth of the association and the development of Modakeke community.

According to him, Pastor Idowu’s rich and insightful contributions during the union’s monthly meetings would be sorely missed, adding that finding a replacement with his depth of commitment and intellect would be difficult.

“Though we love our fallen brother, we are helpless, as the retention of life in perpetuity is beyond human capability,” Odewale stated. “I have solace in the verifiable fact that our brother died fulfilled, having run the race of life to a logical conclusion, leaving behind indelible achievements in all ramifications.”

He further recalled the late pastor’s sense of humour, bluntness, and meticulous attention to detail, describing him as an illustrious and highly valued son of Modakeke whose contributions to community advancement were well documented.

While extending condolences to the widow, children, and associates of the deceased, the chairman urged them to take solace in faith, noting that no event occurs without the knowledge of God.

University Community Pays Tribute

Also mourning the deceased is Mr. Julius Olugbenga Oyelakin, a Deputy Registrar in the Registry of Obafemi Awolowo University, who described Pastor Idowu as a brilliant technocrat and valued member of the university community.

In his tribute, Oyelakin said he first met the late finance director in 2007 at the Administrative and Technical Staff Establishment (ATSE), recalling that he found in him a man worthy of admiration and learning.

He described Pastor Idowu as a remarkable individual with a keen intellect, a great sense of humour, and a heart of gold. According to him, Idowu’s factual disposition, mastery of accounting systems, and attention to detail earned him widespread respect.

“He was a peace-maker, a mentor, and a guiding light to many. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the values he upheld,” Oyelakin stated.

Pastor Emmanuel Adegoke Idowu is remembered as a devoted community leader, accomplished administrator, and committed servant of God whose impact transcended both his hometown of Modakeke and the university community in Ile-Ife.

He is survived by his wife, children, colleagues, and numerous admirers.
