Several passengers have been confirmed injured after an Abuja-bound train travelling to Kaduna derailed on Monday following a collision along the rail corridor.
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Kayode Opeifa, confirmed the incident, stating that the train encountered a mishap near Asham.
According to Opeifa, no fatalities had been recorded as of the time of filing this report. He noted that passengers who sustained injuries were immediately transported back to the Idu Railway Station for medical attention.
He added that the Nigerian Railway Corporation has commenced an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
“It is confirmed that our Abuja–Kaduna train had an incident at Asham. Passengers were injured while an investigation is ongoing into the exact cause of the incident,” Opeifa said.
Authorities are expected to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
