Saudi Arabia Confirms Friday for Eid-el-Fitr as Shawwal Moon Remains Unseen

Authorities in Saudi Arabia have officially announced that the crescent moon signaling the start of Shawwal 1447 AH was not sighted on Wednesday, confirming that the holy month of Ramadan will complete a full 30 days.

Following the development, the celebration of Eid al-Fitr has been scheduled for Friday, March 20, 2026.

The announcement came after the customary moon-sighting exercise, a long-standing Islamic tradition used to determine the end of Ramadan and the beginning of a new lunar month.

As a result, Muslims across Saudi Arabia are expected to observe the 30th day of fasting on Thursday before marking Eid-el-Fitr festivities the following day.
