The Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, has called on all sons and daughters of Ijesaland to remain united against politicians who sponsor or engage in political violence ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
The revered monarch made the appeal during his one year coronation anniversary thanksgiving service held at the Cathedral Church of St. John, Iloro, in Ilesa, Osun State.
Speaking at the event, the royal father strongly condemned political killings, intimidation, and acts of witch-hunting allegedly carried out by some politicians, describing such actions as barbaric, unacceptable, and contrary to the teachings of God.
According to the monarch, no political ambition should be pursued at the expense of human lives, peace, and unity within society. He urged political actors and their supporters to embrace peaceful conduct and democratic values before, during, and after the elections.
Owa Haastrup further stressed the need for the people of Ijesaland to collectively reject violence and stand firmly against individuals or groups attempting to destabilize the peace of the land through political desperation.
The monarch also expressed appreciation to the Bishop of the Ilesa Anglican Diocese, Prof. Dapo Asaju; the vicars, members of the congregation; the Owa-in-Council; traditional chiefs; and the people of Ijesaland for their continued support, prayers, and goodwill.
Among dignitaries in his entourage were Chief Lateef Bakare, Ajirowa of Ijesaland; Oba Olufemi Agunsoye, Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa; Oba Festus Awogboro, Alademure of Ibokun, Oba Omokehinde Samson Oyebade, Ogboni of Ipole-Ijesa; High Chief Saka Fapohunda, Ogboni of Ilesa; Oba Dr. Michael Odunayo Ajayi, Arowotawaya II, Elerinmo of Erinmo-Ijesa; High Chies Prof Samuel Iyiola Oni, Oba-Odo of Ilesa; Yeyerise Hannah Bolanle Ojo, other prominent traditional rulers and chiefs from across Ijesaland.
