Fadahunsi Clinches APC Senatorial Ticket for Third Consecutive Term in Osun East

Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Osun East Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections, securing the party’s ticket for a third consecutive term.

Fadahunsi emerged victorious at the conclusion of the APC senatorial primary election held at the Ilesa East APC Secretariat, Itabalogun, Ilesa, which served as the collation centre for the exercise.

The primary election featured three aspirants: former lawmaker Ajibola Famurewa, Thomas Olaleye Ogungbangbe, and Senator Fadahunsi.

At the end of the exercise, Fadahunsi polled 23,593 votes to defeat his closest challengers. Famurewa secured 472 votes, while Ogungbangbe garnered 806 votes.

Party delegates, stakeholders, leaders, and loyal APC members from across the senatorial district gathered at the venue for what party officials described as a crucial democratic exercise ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election and the 2027 National Assembly polls.

Fadahunsi’s emergence means he will once again fly the APC flag in the senatorial election, marking his third consecutive bid for the Osun East seat.

The senator first won a senatorial seat in 2019 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after defeating Famurewa of the APC. He was subsequently re-elected in 2023 before defecting to the APC.

A retired customs officer and seasoned politician, Fadahunsi previously represented Osun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly under the PDP platform. He is widely known for his advocacy on agricultural support initiatives for constituents and his legislative contributions, particularly in customs and industry-related matters.

Fadahunsi officially resigned from the PDP in mid-2025 and completed his defection to the APC in early 2026.

In a resignation letter dated June 12, 2025, and addressed to the PDP chairman in Ward 4, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, the lawmaker stated that his decision followed extensive consultations with his family and political associates.

The senator, who currently chairs the Senate Committee on Industry, is expected to lead the APC’s push to strengthen its dominance in Osun East during the 2027 general elections.
