The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration of plunging the state’s healthcare system into crisis following a recent assessment by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).
In a statement issued by the Head of Media and Publicity Committee of the council, Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, the APC said the Adeleke administration had allegedly reversed the gains recorded in the health sector under the immediate past administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
The opposition party reacted to a report published by *The Punch* on May 11, 2026, which cited the NPHCDA as ranking Osun among states with the highest number of non-functional primary healthcare centres in Nigeria.
According to the report, Osun State currently has 326 non-operational primary healthcare facilities, making it the state with the second-highest number of dormant PHCs nationwide.
The APC described the development as “embarrassing and disgraceful,” claiming it validated earlier criticisms of what it termed the Adeleke administration’s poor handling of healthcare delivery in the state.
The party recalled that during the administration of former Governor Oyetola, Osun reportedly ranked sixth nationally in primary healthcare performance with an 87 percent rating in the NPHCDA assessment conducted in August and September 2022.
The APC further stated that the previous administration revitalized over 332 primary healthcare centres across the state and reconstructed general hospitals in communities including Ifetedo and Ejigbo.
It also highlighted the construction of a 120-bed ward at the State Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo, as well as 30 residential flats for medical doctors aimed at improving healthcare delivery and welfare for health workers.
The campaign council, however, alleged that the current administration had failed to improve on the inherited infrastructure, accusing it instead of merely repainting existing health centres and replacing commissioning plaques to claim ownership of projects initiated by the previous government.
The statement also alleged that healthcare services in state-owned hospitals had become too expensive for ordinary citizens, citing the cost of Caesarean Section procedures, which it claimed now exceeds N500,000 in some government hospitals.
The APC further accused the Adeleke administration of worsening manpower shortages in the health sector following the alleged dismissal of 515 health professionals recruited under the Oyetola administration, including doctors, pharmacists and radiologists.
The opposition party also referenced allegations made last year concerning the movement of medical equipment from the federally-owned Child and Mother Hospital in Osogbo to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital to facilitate accreditation exercises.
While criticizing the Adeleke administration’s performance, the APC said the governor’s campaign team had focused more on political rhetoric and the internal affairs of the opposition party rather than addressing pressing governance issues.
The party expressed confidence that voters in Osun State would support its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), in the August 15 governorship election.
The statement was signed by Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye on behalf of the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council.
