Tension and anxiety continue to mount across Ahoro-Esinele, Yawota, Oniya, and Alawusa communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State following the abduction of seven teachers and thirty-nine students/pupils during coordinated attacks by suspected gunmen on Friday.
Among those abducted is Mrs. Rachael Alamu, Principal of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, alongside the school’s Vice Principal, Mr. Ojo Jonathan, and several other teachers.
The affected schools are Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School.
Sources disclosed that the attackers stormed the communities and school premises, causing panic as residents fled for safety. During the attack, four motorcycles were allegedly snatched by the gunmen — three from Yawota community and one belonging to Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele.
The teachers reportedly abducted are:
• Mrs. Alamu Folawe – Principal, Community High School
• Mr. Ojo Jonathan – Vice Principal
• Mr. Olatunde Zacchaeus – Teacher
• Mr. John Olaleye – Teacher
• Mr. Michael Oyedokun – Teacher
• Mrs. Oladeji – Teacher
• Mary Akanbi – Teacher, Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School
Reports indicate that a total of 39 students and pupils from different communities within Oriire Local Government were also kidnapped during the invasion.
The incident has thrown the affected communities into deep fear and confusion as parents and relatives continue to search for information about their missing children and loved ones.
Meanwhile, security operatives have reportedly intensified efforts to rescue the victims and track down the perpetrators.
The All Nigerian Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) Elders Forum, Ogbomoso Zone, has strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a direct assault on education and innocent children.
The Forum called on the Oyo State Government and security agencies to ensure the immediate and unconditional release of all abducted victims, strengthen security around rural schools, and bring those responsible to justice.
Residents, traditional leaders, and community stakeholders have also appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde and security authorities to urgently intervene before the situation escalates further.
As of the time of filing this report, families of the victims remain in distress while prayers and rescue efforts continue for the safe return of all abducted teachers and students.
