President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Ishaq Oloyede whose tenure expires on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Aina is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, with years of experience in digital infrastructure, examination systems, and public-sector institutional reforms.
The Presidency described the incoming registrar as a distinguished academic and systems expert who has spent over 15 years advising federal and state governments on digital transition, system design, and institutional reforms.
“Professor Aina, who will be 40 in July, is a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector institutional reform,” the statement read.
Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
The statement further noted that the professor had previously worked as a consultant to examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), particularly on ICT systems and examination integrity.
He is also a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
President Tinubu expressed confidence in Aina’s ability to sustain and surpass the achievements recorded under Oloyede’s leadership at JAMB.
The President said the new registrar is expected to deploy his expertise and practical experience to further strengthen the operations and credibility of the examination body.
