The family of Michael Oyedokun, the schoolteacher abducted and later beheaded by suspected terrorists in Oyo State, has described his death as a painful and irreplaceable loss, revealing that he died without a child after over a decade of marriage.
Oyedokun was reportedly abducted alongside other teachers and pupils of Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, during an attack on the community on Friday, May 15. Days after the incident, the attackers released a disturbing video allegedly showing his decapitated body.
Speaking on behalf of the family in an interview with Sahara Reporters, a relative of the deceased, Ebeni Adediran, said the late teacher was a peaceful and humble man who devoted more than 20 years of his life to the teaching profession.
According to him, Oyedokun’s death has left the family devastated, especially as he passed away without leaving behind a child.
“He was a good man in our family and this is why his death is a big loss to us, an irreplaceable loss. His death is painful and difficult for us to describe,” Adediran said.
“The most painful part is that he did not leave any child behind. He had been married for more than 10 years, but despite all efforts, they did not have a child. Now he is gone and there is no child to continue his lineage.”
The family also disclosed that both of Oyedokun’s parents are still alive and struggling to cope with the tragic loss of their son.
They further appealed to Nigerians to stop sharing graphic videos and images of the slain teacher on social media, saying the repeated circulation of the footage is worsening their grief and emotional trauma.
“We truly appreciate the love, concern, and sympathy shown towards our family during this painful time. However, the continuous circulation of those videos and images is deeply traumatizing for us as a family,” the relative added.
“His loved ones, including nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, have been emotionally devastated, especially as these disturbing contents continue to appear online.”
The killing of the teacher has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over insecurity and attacks on schools and rural communities in parts of Oyo State.
