The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the killing of a 14-year-old boy, Ezekiel Olapade, in Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government Area of the state, describing the incident as wicked, barbaric and unacceptable.
In a statement issued on Monday by the party's Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the APC expressed deep concern over the teenager's death and called on the Osun State Police Command to immediately launch a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
The party stated that the killing of the young boy represented an extreme act of cruelty and urged security agencies to ensure that all those responsible, directly or indirectly, are identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
"We strongly call on the police to investigate the circumstances surrounding the gruesome killing with a view to bringing the perpetrators to justice," the statement said.
The APC also sympathised with the bereaved family and the people of Ilobu, praying for the repose of the deceased and for God to grant his parents the strength to bear the painful loss.
The opposition party further cautioned individuals it described as "disgruntled elements" against engaging in violence under any guise, stressing that violence has no place in democratic politics.
According to the statement, the party's governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), remains committed to peaceful political engagement and does not support any form of violence.
The APC maintained that Oyebamiji believes that no political ambition is worth the loss of human life and reiterated its commitment to peaceful conduct throughout the political process.
The party also called on Governor Ademola Adeleke's administration to strengthen efforts toward protecting lives and property across the state, in line with its constitutional responsibilities.
While commending its members and supporters for maintaining peace and order, the APC urged them to remain law-abiding and resist any form of provocation in the interest of sustaining peace and stability in Osun State.
The statement was signed by Mogaji Kola Olabisi, Osun State APC Director of Media and Information.
