‎Owa Obokun Palace Announces Passing of YeyeOwa Yinka Obaleye, Suspends Public Functions for Three Days

‎The Palace of the Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland has announced the passing of YeyeOwa (Dame) Eunice Olayinka Obaleye, a renowned industrialist, philanthropist, and revered cultural icon.

‎According to a statement issued by the Chief of Staff to the Owa Obokun, Chief Dupe Ajayi-Gbadebo, Dame Obaleye passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026, barely two weeks after celebrating her 88th birthday.

‎The palace described her death as the end of an extraordinary era of service, leadership, entrepreneurship, and community development in Ijesaland and beyond.

‎Born on June 4, 1938, Dame Obaleye built a vast industrial empire that provided employment opportunities for thousands of people across Osun State and neighbouring regions. Widely regarded as one of the state's foremost industrialists, she was recognised as the second-highest employer of labour in Osun State, contributing significantly to economic growth and social development.

‎Beyond her achievements in business, the late YeyeOwa was known for her deep commitment to the Christian faith and her extensive support for the Methodist Cathedral, Otapete, Ilesa. As a principal benefactor of the church, she funded numerous charitable programmes, healthcare initiatives, community outreach projects, and infrastructural developments that impacted countless lives.

‎Her contributions to society earned her several honours and chieftaincy titles over the years. On October 31, 2025, she made history as the first recipient of the prestigious title of YeyeOwa of Ijesaland, the highest cultural and civic honour bestowed upon a woman in the kingdom.

‎In further recognition of her remarkable legacy, she was inducted into the inaugural Ijesaland Hall of Fame on April 6, 2026. During the ceremony, a major road in Ilesa was renamed Eunice Olayinka Obaleye Way in her honour.

‎The palace noted that Dame Obaleye will be remembered as a symbol of wisdom, unity, generosity, and exemplary leadership whose impact transcended business, religion, and community service.

‎She is survived by her children, extended family members, and a grateful community that benefited immensely from her compassion and philanthropy.

‎Meanwhile, His Imperial Majesty, the Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, has directed the suspension of all palace-related public functions for three days beginning Monday in honour of the departed matriarch.

‎The palace stated that further announcements regarding memorial activities and final funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.

‎The public has also been urged to keep the royal family, the Obaleye family, and the entire people of Ijesaland in their thoughts and prayers during this period of mourning.
