Osun Police: Suspected Cultists Targeted Davido During Attack on Governor Adeleke’s Convoy

The Osun State Police Command has said singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, was the target of an attack on the convoy of Governor Ademola Adeleke on Wednesday, August 19.

The incident happened in Osogbo when the governor visited the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo shortly after receiving his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Davido and some of the governor's children were said to be in the convoy when the attack happened.

There was panic in the area after some unidentified men allegedly began shooting at the convoy. The governor's security escorts reportedly returned fire, leading to a gun duel.

The spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, said preliminary investigation showed that suspected members of the Eye Confraternity were allegedly after Davido.

According to him, one Adebayo Taoreed, popularly known as “Small Rugged,” was identified as a suspected thug and alleged member of the cult group.

Ojelabi said the suspect allegedly tried to get close to Davido but was stopped by members of the singer's security team.

The confrontation reportedly attracted other suspected gang members in the area. The group was said to have temporarily blocked the entrance to the Ataoja's palace and stopped the governor's convoy from moving.

The police spokesperson said the suspected gang members later left the area.

However, on their way from the scene, they allegedly shot a 60-year-old man, Tajudeen Yusuf, at Itaolokan in Osogbo.

The police said officers quickly moved to the area after receiving the report and found Yusuf lying in a pool of blood.

He was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital in Osogbo for treatment but was later confirmed dead by doctors.

The Osun State Police Command said it has started a full investigation into the incident.

The police also said efforts have been increased to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.
