The Osun State Police Command has directed all political parties, candidates, and their supporters to suspend planned political activities in Oriade Local Government Area on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, following intelligence reports of possible security threats.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
According to the command, credible intelligence indicated a likelihood of disturbances capable of threatening public peace and safety in the area if political activities were allowed to proceed as scheduled.
As a result, the Commissioner of Police ordered the immediate suspension of all political gatherings, rallies, campaigns, processions, and related activities in Oriade Local Government Area, urging stakeholders to postpone such events to a later date.
The police explained that the decision became necessary after several attempts by security agencies to mediate and broker peace among the concerned political parties failed to produce a mutually acceptable resolution, leading to a deadlock.
The command stressed that the precautionary measure is aimed at preventing a breakdown of law and order, safeguarding lives and property, and ensuring the continued peace of the local government area.
It therefore called on political actors, party supporters, and residents to comply fully with the directive and cooperate with security agencies in the interest of public safety.
The Osun State Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state and urged residents to remain law-abiding while going about their lawful activities.
