Osun Police Arrest Three Suspected Cultists, Recover Firearms and Dangerous Weapons

The Osun State Police Command has arrested three suspected notorious cultists and political thugs in separate operations, recovering firearms, ammunition, charms, and other dangerous weapons from the suspects.

The suspects were identified as 27-year-old Adekola Olayinka Abdulazeez, 28-year-old Omolara Ezekiel, and 32-year-old Babatunde Azeez.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the breakthrough was recorded as part of the Command's ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and maintain public safety.

The police disclosed that the arrest began on May 22, 2026, when a patrol team attached to the Ikirun Area Command intercepted Adekola while conducting a routine stop-and-search operation. He was reportedly riding an unregistered motorcycle when officers discovered two English Beretta pistols, an axe, and charms in his possession.

Following the arrest, the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where detectives from the Anti-Robbery Section launched a detailed investigation.

During interrogation, Adekola allegedly confessed to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity and revealed that he was on his way to deliver the weapons and ammunition to another cult member, identified as Omolara Ezekiel, before he was apprehended.

Acting on the intelligence gathered, police detectives tracked and arrested Omolara Ezekiel and Babatunde Azeez. During the operation, officers recovered an additional Beretta pistol loaded with one live round of ammunition, as well as a locally modified cut-to-size gun.

Subsequent searches conducted at the suspects' residences led to the recovery of four cutlasses, two axes, and two live cartridges.

In total, the exhibits recovered from the suspects include three English Beretta pistols, one live round of ammunition, one cut-to-size gun, two live cartridges, four cutlasses, and three axes.

The police said investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal network who may still be at large.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, CP Ibrahim Gotan, warned political thugs, cultists, and other criminal elements against any attempt to disrupt the peace of the state.

He reiterated the Command's commitment to working closely with relevant stakeholders and security partners to ensure that Osun remains unsafe for criminals while guaranteeing the security of law-abiding residents.

The police urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information that could aid efforts to combat crime across the state.
